Professor, School of Disaster Management, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, MUMBAI.

Professor Janki Andharia  teaches at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and was Head, Department of Urban and Rural Community Development before moving on as Chairperson of the newly created Centre for Disaster Management. She has over 30 years of experience in the field of community organization and social development. Her areas of work focus on gender issues, environmental concerns, social planning and participatory development, addressing diverse forms of marginalization and vulnerability. She has been involved in policy work and has had a long association with grassroots organizations. Professor Andharia was awarded the Association of Commonwealth Universities Scholarship to pursue her Ph.D from School of Environment Sciences, University of East Anglia U.K. in the area of Gender, Development and Environment. She has participated in over 15 national disaster response activities and worked closely in the area of post disaster relief, rehabilitation and recovery. In 2005 she led the TISS initiative of post tsunami rehabilitation planning at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In 2013 she received the best Professor in Disaster Management award given by the Lokmat group for national education leadership.
