Professor & Head, Dept., of Social Work, Sri Padmavati Mahila University, Tirupati.

Specialist in Livelihoods, SHG management, Trainings and Research & Evaluation of Projects.  She worked earlier as the Team Leader of the World Bank funded Andhra Pradesh District Poverty Initiatives Project (APDPIP) and Andhra Pradesh Rural Poverty Reduction Project (APRPRP) Process Monitoring teams, is an acknowledged social development expert with excellent PRA and qualitative research skills.  Prof. V.Uma is currently also the Lead Qualitative Researcher for the Young Lives Project (Younglives.org) being implemented in collaboration with the University of Oxford and funded by the DFID.

Prof.Uma has successfully completed a number of projects funded by international agencies in the areas of poverty, rural livelihoods, SLMF, poverty and HIV/AIDS, trafficking in women and children, child labour and Aids Prevention Education Programme (APEP) for school children.

Trained in premier institutes, both in India and abroad, Prof.V. Uma is an expert on rural poverty and social development. Prof. V.Uma has more than three decades of experience to her credit in teaching and research, training field workers, managing and coordinating field work with a multi-disciplinary team and in dealing with government officials at the sub-district, district and state levels.

At the university level Prof V.Uma has been a member of both academic and administrative bodies, contributed to the corporate life of the university and offered valuable service thereby contributing to the growth and development of the university. She received the ‘Best Teacher Award from the GOAP in 2014.
